4 Proven Techniques For Staying Patient With Toddlers

Children are one of life's greatest blessings, but you have to acknowledge that they aren't always angels. Toddlers are prone to testing your patience because they're still learning what's acceptable and what's not because they're still shaping their behavior and figuring out what's proper and wrong (on top of their endless reservoir of energy).

Follow these ways to keep patient with toddlers when you're at your wit's end with your little one:

Level with your child

You must stop thinking like an adult in situations like this! The majority of the time, especially with small children, their disruptive behavior is unintentional. It is primarily motivated by either frustration or innocence. That's why, when they're being "bad," use it as an opportunity to teach them something: say what you need to say, ask questions, and then move on. Have additional tolerance since they'll act out if they can't convey what they want adequately. Put yourself in their shoes and try to comprehend things from their perspective.

Offer choices

Even children dislike being told what to do all day. They will become frustrated if they are told "no" to practically everything. Offer them another option when they ask for something you won't give them. If your child requests for a lollipop shortly before sleep, you can sweetly explain why she won't be able to have one and instead offer a glass of milk. She won't feel as though she can't do anything or have anything if she does it this way.

Observe your own behavior

Kids observe you and pick up on your activities in ways you may not realize. If you grumble a lot, complain when there's nothing nice on TV, raise your voice when you're irritated, or don't eat everything on your plate during meals, it's time to see a therapist. Expecting your child to be flawless when you have some poor behaviors yourself is unrealistic. Always remember that you are your child's role model, so be careful what you say and do around them!

Let things be

Don't sweat the minor stuff is one of the best parenting advice you can obtain. It's not worth your time and energy to get angry and punish your child if they spill paint on the floor, play with your lipstick, or make any other mistake. Simply correct the error and go on. Simply said, let children be children!

If kids didn't get on their parents' nerves, they wouldn't have gotten the most out of their childhood! Simply follow these helpful hints for remaining patient with toddlers.
